Angel (they/she/he) → Organization + Writing Mod
TumblrAO3
↳ Hi! I’m Angel or Solaris, longtime creator in the community of Thai dramas. You might know me as ghostangel, sunthief.png or, of course, nanonkorapat. Artist, writer, first-time mod, I am very excited to create this zine with some of my best friends. Bad Buddy is very dear to me and I can’t wait to apply the experience I’ve gained at my irl job (yikes) to organize this fanzine.

Eleni (she/her) → Graphics + Formatting Mod
Twitter - Tumblr
↳ Helloooo I'm Eleni, in charge of the graphics and formatting of our beloved little project. I started watching thai dramas during the 2020 quarantine and have since fallen in love with the LGBT representation portraited in some of the shows — Bad Buddy being one of the best of them. Besides my mod duties, I will also be creating some artwork for the zine!

Anna (they/them) → Social Media + Art Mod
Twitter - Tumblr - AO3
↳ Hi! I’m Anna (or Nica) and I’m going to be drawing and writing for this zine. Bad Buddy quickly became one of my favorite series, BL or otherwise, and I love making fanart and fanfic, so I’m very excited to share this zine with y’all! You can find me on Tumblr as parrishcoded and on twitter as nicaisms. I love working together with Angel and Eleni and what we come up with so I hope you enjoy the result! <3

FAQs

Q: What is a zine?
→ A zine (short for magazine) is an independently published compilation of works from either a single creator or a small group of creators. Fanzines are more specifically composed of derivative fanworks for pre-existing media. Ours is inspired by Bad Buddy The Series (2022).
Q: What does "Liminal Love" mean?
→ You can find an explanation here Why "Liminal Love"?
Q: Is this zine SFW?
→ Yes, this zine will only feature safe for work content.
Q: Will this zine be digital or physical?
→ This will be determined by the results of our interest check.
Q: How many contributors will there be?
→ This is a three-person zine. You can find more about us at our mods page.
Q: Why is there no head moderator? And, why would moderators with little to no experience be running this?
→ Because of the nature of our team, we have decided to work together in unison instead of relying on a single head moderator. If a head mod were to become unavailable, the project would come to a halt, so having all moderators hold equal responsibility is the easiest way for all of us to properly moderate this zine.
→ We hear your concerns and would like to address them. We have experience with zines/collaborative projects and will try our hardest to give this zine the attention and dedication it deserves. We thank you for your understanding.
Q: I have a question that isn't listed here. What do I do?
→ Feel free to reach out to us! You can @ or DM us on all our socials (@bbliminalzine) or send us an ask on Tumblr.

Why "Liminal Love"?

The title "Liminal Love" combines the zine's two themes: liminality and queer love. While watching the series, we were fascinated by the constant reoccurance of love in liminal (or confined) spaces and the ultimate liberation from them.

But, what is a liminal space?
"A liminal space is a space between spaces, a boundary between two points in time, space, or both. It’s the middle ground between two grounds, the mid-structure between two structures. When you’re in a liminal space, you’re neither here nor there, neither this nor that. At the same time, you’re both here and there. Both this and that."
(Definition from psychmechanics.com)

Pat and Pran constantly find themselves in situations and places defined by liminality. On a personal level, their relationship is uncertain. They never know if they are enemies, friends or more and at the same time, they are all these things at once.

On an external level, some of their most important scenes are played out in confined spaces. The rooftop, the beach, the auditorium, their own dorm rooms etc. are all places hidden from the public eye. They offer privacy and safety. These are the places they can be themselves for the most part, while they always have to pretend in the outside world.

We believe queer love and liminality often go hand-in-hand.Being queer excludes you from public spaces in a very specific way, because the hostility you might face makes you feel unwelcome.

Public spaces, spaces meant to be shared by all, suddenly become a battle field where you have to be careful of your every move. It is so much easier to control a single room, or at least a defined space. This is why reclaiming public spaces is essential to queer liberation. And that's exactly why Bad Buddy is radical on this front, too. Of course, they do live a lot in small spaces, they hide. But at the end, this happens on their own terms. This is why the confession on EP 10 is so important. Declaring your love in the middle of campus is a radical act, even if their universe isn't homophobic. It remains radical because ours is.
